Casa Ali >> Happy birthday India Pakistan!

Coming up… August. Two of my homes, India Pakistan celebrate their 66th birthday. My recipes for the month can not help reference some of the food that I grew up with. And its Eid as well! What’s nearly gone is…

… July and what a packed month it has been. Four Casa Ali gatherings, created and handed over content for food4thought, some of my harvest has begun, couch surfer guests from Turkey and Australia and a new kid added to the line of royals in a summer which has been the hottest in many years (wonder how it would impact on the future of united kingdom).

food4thought will be a post by itself in the next week or so (sign up for your free i-phone and android app). Casa Ali was joy as usual. Intimate gatherings with faces new and familiar, as there were fewer people the conversations were more wholesome. some beautiful moments that will stay in my mind forever…. generosity of Sarah and Cristina at blessing me every few minutes on account of my hay fever! Being in the garden identifying plants and hearing stories from Cristina. Watching in awe with Sarah, a flying UFO that turned out to be a beetle. Childlike wonder in the eyes of Juan and Tim as they revisited climbing over fortified walls in Istanbul. Paolo and Tim bonding and promptly defining their love for ‘lullaby films’. Films and TV series, whose narrative and sometimes dialogues are remembered by heart and are great to put you to sleep very quickly. Lullaby films, a utilitarian practice which shows quite little respect for the labour that lies behind the production of films, is not empty of irony. Tim runs a film distributing company and Paolo is a professor in film studies and visual culture! Jaime spotting the dancer in Janice and stories of Pineapple rolling out. No words to describe the Transport for London delays… and Rose platting Andrea’s hair, Andrea being a hair stylist and a shining star at Toni&Guy… all this and more with not a drop of alcohol! 🙂

As you can see the allotment is rife and bearing its fruits plentiful. Besides oodles of courgettes, red onions (so fulfilling to braid them :)) and handsome purple peas, there is plenty gorgeous swiss chard, pinto beans, potatoes and herbs.
